Teener All-Stars Bounce Back, Make StatesBELLWOOD-The Bedford County Teener AU-Stars came bock from an opening game loss to win Saturday and Sunday and win the Area 7 VFW Teener playoffs title over the Juniata VFW National All-Stars,Bedford County evened the series at 1*1 Saturday, pounding Juniata 10-1 at the Bellwood High School field. On Sunday the locals took the title game, 4-2.The local all-stars will compete in the state tournament at Altoona next week.In Saturday’s game, Bedford County fell behing 1-0 in the second inning as Juniata got its only run on a walk, error and a ball. Juniata’s only hit of the game came on a Texas League single by Joe Irwin over second base.Bedford went ahead in the third inning, picking up a pair of runs. Scott Beegle singled, stole secondand scored on a double by John Topper. Don Elliott’s single advanced Topper to third, and he scored on a wild pitch by losing pitcher Goodlin.Bedford broke the game open inthe fifth inning, picking up five insurance runs.Beegle’s double opened the charge, Elliott reached on an error at short, Mark Clark followed with an RBI single and Shane Weyant followed with a single to score Eliott. Keith Engle drove in Clark and Mickey Shauf brought in Weyant. Engle was out at the plate trying to score on the same hit, but Shauf moved into third on the play. Shauf scored on a passed ball.Bedford added three more in the seventh. Engle singled, Shauf singled, and after a double steal, Ansel Shircliffe hit a sacrifice to deep center, scoring Engle. Larry Steach walked, Beegle to anotherbase hit, scoring Shauf and Steach.Beegle, who came on in the fourth inning in relief of Kenny Rose, got the win. Beegle didn’t allow a hit while fanning eight and walking four in four scoreless innings. Rose gave up one run and one hit while striking out two and walking three.Beegle also went 3-5 to pace the batting attack. Eliott drove in three runs, going 2*4. Mark Clark was 2-4 while Engle and Shauf were 2-3.Sunday’s GameOn Sunday Juniata went a head 1-0 in the second inning, but Bedford came back again to take the lead.Rodkey walked, stole second and scored on a single by Brown. Brown was cut down in a peg from Beegle in left-center to Mark Donaldson at short to Shircliffe at second.Bedford couldn’t get on the boar until the fourth, but then picked up two runs. Clark walked with oneaway, Steach followed with another walk. Engle’s grounder to second loaded the bases when Juniata's Walters missed second base. Juniata pulled up its infield and Weyant singled between third and short to drive in two runs,Bedford added two more in the fifth. Donaldson walked, Shauf singled to left and Topper drilled a triple down the right field line, over thr right fielder’s head, for what would be the winning runs.Topper was out at the plate and an infield bouncer ended the inning.Juniata put on the pressure in the seventh, Third baseman Danner and pinch hitter Kasun walked. Bedford’s Mark Clark was relieved by Beegle, who walked Cumming to load the bases. John Rowland drove a deep shot to left-center field, and Clark, having moved to the outfield, made a running catch to prevent an extra-base hit. Danner tagged upand scored. Baum ripped the next pitch down the third base line, but Topper stabbed the ball and stepped on the bag to end the game.Clark got the win and Beegle was credited with a save. Clark went six innings, giving up two runs on four hits and seven walks. He fanned ll. Clark ended up with 22 strikeouts in 13 innings in the three-game series, losing the first game and winning the third.Saturday'!
