THERE WAS an Austin angle to the world’s longest fresh water sailboat race which ended Tuesday in Duluth. They crossed Lake Superior, sailing from Sault Sainte Marie, Mich., Saturday noon.One of the entries, an Ericson 35 - ft. sailboat named O.J., and owned by Drill Marine, Duluth, carried a crew of eight including Roger and Mary Kay Drill, Duluth, and Leon Tyler, Minneapolis.Drill has entered many races but it was the first event for his wife, the former Mary Kay Daane of Austin, and Tyler, whose wife is the forma* Sheila Ehmke of Austin.Mrs. Drill is the daughter of Mrs. John Oliphant, Rochester, and the late Jay Daane. While her husband joined the sailing crew, Mrs. Tyler spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Melvin Ehmek, 1910 Oakland Ave. W., and then headed for Green Bay, Wis. As supervisor of nine Braun’s specialty shops, she opened a new store in Wisconsin this week. Sheila’s husband is the Minneapolis representative for Drill Marine.
