Shoemen, Wehrli’s Victorious Over GLA, Research In CVSLIn the Chenango Valley Softball League play last night the pennant.winning Wehrili's defeat, ed the Research 3 to 1 and the Norwich Shoe Company knocked off GLA, 7 to 4, by coming up with three runs in the top half of the eighth inning.Wehrli’s came from behind af. ter being down by 1 to 0 in the third inning to scroe three runs in the top of the fourth and held on for the win as winning pitch-er Rocky Nuzzolese twirled a two-hitter against the sixth, place Research.Over the first three innings, Research’s pitcher Shanne gave up just one hit as he sat down 9 out of 11 batters on ground balls to the infield- He walked one and gave up a double to Bucklin with two outs.The Research nine came up with the first run of the game without any hits as a base on balls and an error by Wehrli’s shortstop was enough.Wehrli’s finding themselves behind dug out three runs in theNYS HarnessReportBy THE ASSOCIATED PRESSSubstantial return for a $2 wager was the order of the nightWednesday at New York State harness racing tracks as long-shots romped home in several featured events.At Monticello, host this week to the Grand Circuit, Quickie Hanover returned $15 in winning the $9,250 Will Caton pace for 2-year-old fillies in 2:05 1-5. A fielder’s choice load-ed the bases again and George Seiler singled to drive in two more runs. Bucklin flied out to end the inning.Swanne and Nuzzolese blanked the opposing hitters the rest of the game with the score remain, ing the same.Dave Petley got the Research’sfirst hit of the game with two outs in the sixth inning spoil-ing Nuzzolese’s bid for a no hit game.The Research gave it a good try loading the bases in the last two innings, but it was of noavail.The Norwich Shoe Company after being down 2 to 0 at the end of five innings erupted for four runs to take a 4 to 2 lead.The GLA had scored its runs in the first and second inning on RBI singles by Carl Colton and Jerry BrownelL A catch by center.fielder Dave True saved the Shoemen from further disaster as he made a diving catch of a sinker liner hit by Hil-singer with two men on in the third inning.In the sixth the Shoemen came to life with four big runs. Three hits, one by C. Crosby with the bases loaded accounted for two of the runs, with a walk and a hit by winning pitcher Sal Mirabito driving in the other two runs of the frame.GLA scored two in the bottom of the sixth on errors by the Shoe infield to tie up the score going into the eighth and deciding inn-ing.Three straight hits loaded the bases with no outs Jn the top of the last inning and a single by Shelly Griffen plated three runs which was the final margin of victory.
