REPORTER—lbRockdale Girls End Track Program Here' Junior Olympics track competi-I tion closed on a high note Thursday night with an exhibition I meet at Tiger Field.The local girls ran oefore their parents and other interested Rlt;*ckdale citizens in the first home meet of the season. The young tracksters have performed this season in San Antonio and in the state meet at Odessa. In front of the home fans, several girls exceeded their earlier efforts ot the year and drew voiced I approval from the onlookers.Carolyn Kent had an 8-4 leap in the standing broad jump. She set a state meet record of 7-71 » two I weeks ago in Odessa. Linda Back-haus. a junior entrant, high jumped 4-H in Thursday’s activities. I Miss Baekhaus did not compete in the AAU high jump because tin' event is only for intermediates and seniors.Sue Jean Bennett who placed second with 3-9 in the state meet high jump improved to 4-4 here as she was second to the 4-8 leap.T A Weems, director of the city recreation track program in Rockdale, praised the girls for theiv spirit and willingness this season.
