': '• - lt;'lt; • • • U.-- . :••!•’Dear Mr. Anderson:I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the Gila County Board of Supervisors, especially Adolph (Fito) Trujillo, and Rudy Huber, director of the Miami-Globe YMCA, for arranging the opportunity to conduct the Ernie Kivisto Basketball Camp at Miami High School.I PERSONALLY do not know of any community that offers so much to future citizens and Americans through well organized sports activities as does the Globe-Miami community.The citizens and sports fans of these two cities and state must be proud of what the Gila County Board of Supervisors has accomplished with its youth through athletics. As a coach for the past 35 years, I know the importance of athletics for boys and girls. Athletics blend initiative and teamwork, teach loyalty and leadership, and promote fortitude. In participating, a boy and girl will find no greater enjoyment in life than the pride and satisfaction that come when he or she accomplishes something because they paid the price to achieve and succeed.Miami will always hold a special place in my heart for the -many wonderful people who I shall never forget.I also want to thank the RotaryClub and Lions Club of Miami for inviting me to be a part of their program.'-v!™:’* ■}*' ;-V. V.• V- */ 'ip'/PSp• •It is truly a wonderful feeling to be a part of Miami, a town that gave me the opportunity to coachTo the Editor:To make an answer to some of Mr. Krank’s letter to the editor of Arizona Silver Belt of 7-19-79.WHY SHOULD we all suffer, just for a few sportsmen that like to hunt for trophy?As for our children, or grandchildren, we all have to make a living, and live somewhere. I don’t believe in chopping off the hand that feeds me, or anyone else.We don’t need a wilderness area in the whole county, or for that matter the whole state.You can’t hold back progress, don’t try it; it’s a million to one odds.I believe in wilderness areas,but not the whole county. Nomore than 100,000 acres in any one county, that’s in Arizona.There is only “one in 10,000“ that will ever go into a wilderness area; “that’s the ones” that will walk.When you say “wilderness area,” I mean just that. No horseback riding, “you walk.” Or else, no wilderness area, at all. Iparents and community, I want you to know how much I appreciate knowing you and lovingyou.Thank you again for the splendid cooperation and support.Sincerely, Isl Coach Ernie Kivistobelieve just that, when you say “wilderness.” When you ride a horse, and a pack horse for your gear, that is a means of transportation. That is defeating the purposes for wilderness.A rancher has a right to run cattle on range. It costs the rancher for every head of cattle he has out there. Where would you or I make a living if it weren’t for the mines and the farmer and rancher? You are cutting your own life line.I believe in preserving a little more than what’s been done in the past, but to stop everything at once is out of the question.Most people that want wilderness areas all over this state and other states don’t know what it’s all about. They never get out of the back yard or the city. They just talk bk:ause they don’t know anything else to talk about. Ralph Nader started all of this wilderness area graft.
