An Emporian at the Olympics........(»y Th* OintiU't Sporta IdiionLos Angele*, July JO.—The LOe Angele* Pttn association,, the Junior Chamber of Commerce _and other organisation* here are seeing that we see the tights here before the Olympic games. Some sort of amusement has been arranged for us every minute and I thought perhaps some of you might be interested in what we are doing.One of our most interesting trip* has been a visit to the football camps of the East and West teams, which will play an exhibition game the night of August § as part of the Olympic program. The East Is represented by players from Harvard, Yale and Princeton while the West representative has been chosen from Southern California, Stanford and California. All players were graduated this spring.The East is coached by Mai Stevens and Tad Jones,' Yale; Adam Walsh, Harvard,, and Neilsen Poe. Princeton. The west by Howard Jones, Southern California; Glenn S. Pop” Warner, Stanford, and Navy Bill inghram, of California. Both teams are practicing twice daily at Jefferson High School field, near the Olympic stadium.Among the players are; East— Todd. Barres,' Hall, Taylor. Hawley, of Yale; Mays, Myerson, Kales, White and Crickard, of Harvard, ajpd Zundel, Yedcley, Lea, Gahagan and Wlater, of Princeton. The West has Shaver, Clarke, Williamson,Arbelbide, Mallory, Hall and Hammock, Southern California; Neill, Hulen, Reynolds, Marks, Hand, Dawson.- Hetser and Wilson, of Stanford, and East, Griffiths, Stone, Klrwin, Bartlett and Watkins, of California. ■We were there Thursday morning and in the afternoon we played golf at Brentwood with Sam Barry, formerly or Iowa, who now is head basketball coach at Southern California.Sees the MUrrfe Studios,Friday morning, we were guests of Universal Pictures at a field da; demonstration given by members of the cast for the new football picture, 'The All-American, The contests were held at Hollywood High School field.Ernie Nevers won the punting contest, with Frank Carideo second. Cain, of Alabama, outsprint-cd the field of 28 in a 50-yard dash. AlMe Booth won the dropkieklng and passing contests and Johnnie Baker, of Southern California, who beat Notre Dame with a placelrick last year, won the placekicking contest.Others in the cast whom you will recognise are Cagle, Army; Plnckert, Southern California; Schwart®, Yarr and Mullins, Notre Dame; Purvis, Purdue; Dalyrimple, Tulane. Coaches in the picture are Alonzo A.Stagg, Chicago; Sill Alexander, Georg!* Tech; Hunk Anderson, Notre . Dame, and “Pop” Warner. We ate lunch with them at the Roosevelt hotel in Hollywood. .Yesterday afternoon, we were guests : at the Paramount - studios where we saw several shots ,of Cecil DeMille's new play, “The Sign of the Cross.” DeMille wm directing in person. Fredric March plays,the lead and the “shots’* we saw., were of a mob scene comprising at least 250 persons.At another sector we- saw Bing Croeby, Stuart Erwin and.a bevy of “babes” making “The -Big Broadcast” Jack Oakie was -found in training for his part in-a new boxing picture, “Madison.Square Garden.”- Adolphe , Menjou was just finishing his work for the day.Attend a Smoker.Friday night, we were guests of the Junior Chamber of Commerce at a smoker and . reception at the Los Angeles Athletic club. Writers were there from: at least 20 countries. No interpreters were present blit they, needed them even for the Americans, especially after the beer had been served. X met one writer from South Africa, 10,000 miles from home. Telegraph rates to his paper are 80 cents a word. Ninety-two Japanese writers are here.Pictures were shewn- of the 1928. Olympics at Amsterdam, „ Holland, and. a number of distinguished guests were introduced. Among them were Jess Willard, Jim Thorpe, Charlie Paddock, Mike Donlaa, Earl Cooper, Duke Kohonomoko (or whatever it is), Maurice McLaughlin and many others.Today, the opening ceremony takes place in the Stadium at 3:30 o'clock, and from then on the program is full.Fran Welch and Harold Grant are here. They had been unable to buy tickets yesterday until Bill Hargiss told them of a pair held by Ray Osborne, manager of the. Muehlebach hotel hi Kansas City. They wired Osborne and be put the two ducats on a mail plane. They should be here in time for the'Opening today.Football coaches held their annual meetinj Friday at the Huntington hotel in Pasadena. Kansans there included Mike Abeam, “Bo McMiUin, Dr. F. C., Allen, Art schabinger and Hargiss, Welch and Grant.—G. K.
