Girl At RacesA lovely New Mexico Junior Collegecoed, Miss Kathy Latimer, honored the Lea County Speed Bowl as trophy girl last Saturday night. She presented “Wild Child Dwaln Tate with the modified stock trophy, and Johnny Newman, “6 A Go-Go received the stock trophy. Lee Newman presented Janls Tate with the Powder Pufft rophy.Jim Young won first place in the stock first heat racewith Johnny Newman runningsecond and Sammy Strickland, third. In the modifiedstock ftst heat, Jack Watkins won first place and Dwain Tate won second place, after all other cars had either wrecked or been disqualified.Winning the stock semi-main was Newton Mobley, with Clurry Flowers secondand Johnny Newman third. Jimmy Grogan in SS, a newcomer to the modified stock class, took first place inthe modified stock Semimain, with Dwain Tate and J. It. Slentz placing second and third.The spectators shouted their approval as Jim Young drove to victory in the stock main ^vent, Newman ran second with Flowers taking third. Taking the checkeredflag for the modified stock main event was Jack Watkins, then Jimmy Grogan and Ken Dean.Tubby 2, driven by Jim Young was protested Saturday night, and will be torn down and determined legal or illegal. The results of this protest will be announced next Saturday night at the speed bowl. If found illegal, Young will forfeit this weeks winnings.
