Glenn Cunningham Denies He Went to Wichita Tuesday! j To Get a Marriage License .Wichita, Aug. 1 (/P)—Glenn Cunningham, great Kansas university middle distance runner, denied today that he appeared at the Sedgwick county courthouse here yesterday with any Intention oi obtaining a license to wed and that his plans for a secret wedding were frustrated by an Inquiring pews reporter.Instead, he said he went there to obtain a passport to Japan where he will compete in six track meets this fall.Reached by telephone at Peabody, where he is a guest of Miss Margaret Speir, the athlete said today he saw no newspaper reporters at the courthouse and denied that he remarked, as reported, that if you're going to put it in the papers, we’ll J not get married here.”Cunningham said he would sail from San Francisco with the United States track team August 16. In Japan he will compete in the 1500 meter run and perhaps the 800 meter.Asked if he and Miss Speir would wed soon, perhaps before sailing. Cunningham replied:I don’t know about that. But If we do get married, X’U let you know.
