Cinco de Mayo tourney SaturdayMILTON-FREEWATER -The 11th annual Cinco de Mayo Soccer Tournament will take place Saturday at Shock man Field.Matches will begin at 9 a.m., with the championship match scheduled for 6 p.m., said tournament chairman Santos Garcia Jr.Eight teams will compete in the tournament, including Avante of Pasco, which has won the event four times.Other teams will be Depor-tivo de Mexico, Deportivo Broetje, F.C. Guava, Fantas-mas, F.C. Spokane, El Taco-Loco and Michocan.The Fantasamas and Michocan teams are from Walla Walla, and El Taco Loco is from Milton-Freewater.Saturday’s first-round matches will send F.C. Guava against F.C. Spokane at 9 a.m., Avante against Michocan at 10 a.m., El Taco-Loco against Deportivo de Mexico at 11 a.m. and Deportivo Broetje against Fantasmas at 12:30 p.m.In addition to crowning a team champion, tournament officials will present awards to the tournament’s most valuable player, best goalkeeper and high scorer.WWCC soccer team to host tourneyThe Walla Walla Community Colletge soccer club will host a four team tournament Sunday at the school’s Tausick Way campus.Other participating schools in the tournament will be Whitman College, the University of Idaho and Eastern Oregon State College.There will be two semifinal games beginning at 10 a.m., with the championship game to follow.
