L. Campbell Wins DistinctionJack Campbell, seventeen year old Ruston high school athlete, won his third and fourth letter “R” in track and. baseball during the past season and thereby became the first four letter man in the history of the Bearcat institution.In past years, some student of the school perhaps participated in the four sports, but in the days before letters were accorded to any members of the teams.Campbell won his first letter during the fall of the present school year by making the football eleven. He played in the line and backfieid and starred in both departments; and also was awarded a letter in the sport for the third time.Jack’s next letter came in basketball and was probably the •'most earned” of the quartet. Since basketball was another of the reinstated sports during the Cat’s school year. Campbell started with the other members of the quintet as a green player but emerged at the conclusion of the schedule us first string guard.The all-sport Bearcat pitched to win a baseball letter and won places in low hurles and as a relay man in track for the remaining honors. Campbell, placed second In the North Louisiana track meet in the low hurdle event and fourth in the same at the Tri-State j meet. His accomplishment in the obstacle race was a result of one season of work.Campbell! has another year of football before graduating from high school. He is the son of H. L. Campbell, Superintendent of Lincoln Parish schools.Wiley HUburn, lettering in baseball, track and football and Ben Hodde, earning numerals in football, basketball and baseball were close onto Jack’s all-star record.
