AchievementAWC honors studentsMore than 50 students received awards or were recognized for achievement at the ninth annual Arizona Western College Student Recognition Night held Monday at AWC.Heading the list of nine all-college honors awarded were Patricia Cohn, full-time academics, and Roberta Ha-jduk, part-time academics. Both have 4.0 grade point averages, and Ms. Cohn will graduate this semester with Highest Academic Distinction.The Organization Award went to AS/AWC, while Todd Keim and Sheila Riddle won awards in human relations, Lydia Reyes in community service and Dtebra Daniels for special achievement.Rosie Dickson, 1981-82 AS/AWC vice president, was honored for leadership, and Todd Braswell won the General Excellence Award.The President’s Cup was awarded by AWC President Kenneth Borland to Marilyn Lott, coordinator of housing and student activities; two Golden Matador Awards were presented by 1981-82 AS/AWC president Craig Labistre and vice president Rosie Dickson to Lee Bird, counselor, and George Scheiner, instructor of law enforcement.Phi Theta Kappa adviser Fred Croxen introduced this year’s members and presented certificates to Who’s Who inAmerican Junior Colleges” honorees. Vincent Riggs, communications division chairman, presented certificates to the college’s 30 study-area and divisional award winners:Carl Bethard, Nancy Castle, Brenda Chapman, Michele Cohen, Patricia Cohn, Joe Copeland, Leonides Covar-rubias, Melinda Cuff, Norma Cygan, Kenneth Erfourth, Mattie Figueroa, Robbie Flajnik, Martha McCain, Brenda Garcia, Guadelupe Garcia, Lynn Goar, Denise Gorman, Coe Holbrook, John Leskera, Brenda McClaskey, Ciana Mead, Robert Nancy, Denise Roddick, Barbara Scott, James Sortomme Jr., Ezekiel Torres, Kenneth Ware, Julie Valentine, Tommilee Williams and Helen Senko.Charles Craig of The Yuma Daily Sun presented the American Newspaper Publishers Association award to Kenneth Erfourth. Sid Woods, former president of the State Board of Regents, presented the University of Arizona President’s Award and scholarship to Jose Cano. Doug Brown, AEA/AWC president, awarded that organization’s scholarship to Elaine Dalton.Hosts for the evening were Lee Bird, counselor, and Chuck DeMore, career center adviser.
