Edison cuts Westminster’s lead to oneWESTMINSTER — Edison High returned a favor Tuesday.It took the Chargers most of the baseball season to do it, but they cooled off Westminster Tuesday afternoon just as the Lions had put the freeze on Edison six weeks ago.It was March 17 when Westminster pitcher Rich Castle stopped a murderous Edison lineup cold with a 4-0 shutout. The Lions went on to win their first 10 games of the league campaign, including another win over Edison.That lead was cut to two last Saturday as Westminster dropped a 3-2 heart-breaker to Huntington Beach, and Edison sliced it to one Tuesday afternoon with a 9-3 win that left the Chargers with a 9-3 league record (18-4 overall) and left Westminster at 10-2 (16-4) with three league games to play.The Lions could have clinched the title Tuesday, but Edison broke open a close game with eight runs in the last three innings to gain its revenge.Castle limited them to three runs on five hits through five innings, but then Joey Kwolek ignited a four-run burst in the sixth with a leadoff homer to the opposite field. Steve Morel-lo and Todd Mabe added run-scoring singles in the inning and Tom Duggan iced it with a two-run single in the seventh.
