Don Richards resignsShakeups made in city coaching ranksCoach Don Richard has resigned his position on the Cullman High coaching staff. Coaches Tyson Campbell and Ted Mauldin have had their athletic supplements withdrawn. Both are coaches at John G. Cullman Middle School.City School Board Chairman Buel Cobb said the action was taken by the Board of Education in a recent meeting.Mr. Cobb said Mr. Campbell had tenure and might remain as a teacher. Mauldin will not be re-employed, Cobb said.Don Richard has coached the Cullman High B team for the past two years. He played line backer for the Cullman Bearcats in the mid 1960’s, where he was all TVC. He attended Florence State, where hedistinguished himself as football player, making three interceptions in one game.Coach Campbell has been on the Cullman Junior High and Middle School coaching staff for nine years. If he chooses, he may remain at the school and teach because of the tenure law.Coach Mauldin is completing his first year of coaching at the Cullman Middle School.Cullman High Head Coach Del Brock said, “we’re looking at the total program and sometimes that involves changes.”We have a fine program, but we want to maintain as good a program as possible. You’ve got to have pride and we’re striving to be the best,” Coach Brock said.
