HOLLY PACKERS 7 - MERCHANTS 0Berkeley Bill Schmidt, big good natured former coast leaguer, pitched the Holly Packers to a 7 to 0 victory against the Ukiah Merchants Sunday afternoon, holding the locals to 3 hits.- Billy Openshaw, pitching for Mgr. Browns aggregation, struck out ten'of the Packers.- He af* lowed nine hits but only four of the Packers runs were earned. *A strong wind was blowing diagonally across the diamond making the high flies difficult to jiidge and accounted for some of the Packers singles. The Packers are one of the fastest teams that has played on the local grounds for a long time and the smooth pitching of Schmidt was a Joy to behold.Packers first score came in the first inning .when Openshaw issued an Aruile Oakley to A1 Wong, who advanced to third on Jack Hugiibergs' bagger, and scored When the umpire called a balk On Bill Openshaw. They scored again in the third Inning when with one out Hertzberg reached first on Brumbac's error and advanced to second on Gallagher's .single. Mecletti then walked and Rogers hit for two bases, scoring Hertzberg and Gallagher. Lan-ters then singled, scoring Rogers and Mecletti. Openshaw struck out Heath and Raff ants in rapid succession ending the inning., In the fourth frame with two out Hertzberg reached first on Kilkenny's error and Gallagher did likewise on Openshaws wild throw to first, Mecletti then singled, scoring Hertzberg.The Packers remaining runcame in the sixth when Jim Gallagher, the centerfieldcr hit one of Openshaw’s fast ones over the left field fence for a home run.Bobby Valcntini playing a fine game In center field for the locals pulled down five flies. ■ * THE BOX SCORETHE PACKERS ........'
