Junior series on againOTTAWA (CP) - The western final of the Centennial Cup will begin Thursday with the Merritt, B.C., Centennials playing host to Prince Albert, Sask., Raiders,the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association announced Tuesday.The site of the remaining games will depend on the outcome of the first two games. A Merritt sweep will see the best-of-seven series move to the Saskatchewan city for the final games. But a split will result in a third match in Merritt before the series moves east.The Saskatchewan games are scheduled, for April 30, May 1-3-4-6. The April 30game would be dropped if a third game is played in Merritt.CAHA President Gordon Renwick denied reports the final series was abandoned. The B.C. club has sent Renwick a telegram saying it will play.The team was suspended by the provincial hockey federation for playing Calgary Canucks in a Centennial Cup preliminary. The Canucks were suspended by the Alberta hockey federation because referees had refused to wear helmets.Merritt obtained a court injunction last Friday to allow it to continue in the Centennial Cup, the national championship for Tier 2 junior teams.
