NOTEBOOKOnce again, the weather was the dominant force in area baseball this week.Only four games were completed this week while nine were postponed. Neither New Castle nor Laurel got a game in. Wilmington and Riverside were the lucky ones - or the unlucky ones - as each completed two games. Riverside lost both games while Wilmington split the pair. The Laurel-Mohawk and Ne-shannock-Shenango games wererained out three times during the week. Both were scheduled for Tuesday and rained out, rescheduled for Wednesday and rained, then rescheduled for yesterday and rained out. Both contests have been rescheduled for Monday, as has the North Catholic-New Castle game, which waspostponed yesterday.• Mohawk High’s Sean Fadden has made the most of his hits the season. Fadden has just five hits in 19 at-bats, but four of the hits have gone four extra bases. He also leads Section 13-AA with 11 RBIs. Twice this season he has come through with clutch, bases-loaded hits. In the seasonopener he ripped a three-run double. Thursday against Wilming-waterton he belted a grand slam.Of course, Fadden has had a lot of RBI opportunities, thanks to the top of Mohawk’s batting order. The top three hitters in the Warriors’ order are hitting a combined 27 for 60, a .450 average.Catcher Gary Argiro, the No. 2 man, leads the trio with a .474 average. Leadoff hitter Gary Weber is next with a .450 mark. And three-hitter Tim Mosley has gotten hot of late, lifting his averageto .429.Meanwhile, the Mohawk threesome has combined to score 25 runs in their team’s six ball games.Todd Tropea continues to be the star hitter for New Castle High this season.Through eight games, Tropea leads the Red Hurricane in batting average (.435), runs scored (seven), doubles (four) and extra-base hits (five). He is second in runs batted in (six) and stolen bases (five).Pat Fee is the ’Canes’ top RBI man with seven, while Adam Gi-nocchi is tied with Tropea with six RBIs. Tropea, Fee and Gi-nocchi have each belted a homerun. In New Castle’s “ideal leadoff man’’ department: Chris Lombardo, with 10 walks in eight games, has a .560 on-base percentage.• In New Castle’s “stat you won’t believe’’ department: Gi-nocchi, the ’Canes’ big, strong and not-so-speedy first baseman, has already swiped four bases. He has allegedly mastered the delayed steal.• Other productive ’Canes have been Mike Porada (.333 average, five runs), Chris Panella (five runs), pitcher John Frank (3.36 earned run average) and pitcher Ron Shebek (19 strikeouts in 19 innings).• The Section 13-AA race is still up for grabs as it enters the second half of the season. Mohawk and Shenango have moved to the top of the loop by posting 4-3 records.Laurel, which won its first three games, has dropped into third place at 3-2. It has not played a game in more than 10 days. Defending champ Ne-shannock has won its past three games and now is 3-3 and in fourth place.Wilmington and Union are tied for fifth place at 3-4.Section 13-AA leadersH AVG.10999997 10 108.556.474.450.450.429.429.412.400.385.381Player, School ABJon Fennick, Laurel..........................................................18Gary Argiro, Mohawk.......................................................19Rob Nogay, Union.............................................................20Gary Weber, Mohawk.......................................................20Brian Luffey, Shenango....................................................21Tim Mosley, Mohawk.......................................................21Mike Bonner, Neshannock.................................................17Jay Budai, Union..............................................................25Jens Jorgensen, Wilmington.............................................26Dwight Heminger, Shenango.............................................21Runs - Weber, Moh9; Argiro, Moh8; Luffey, Shen8; Mosley, Moh8; 4tied with 7. .Hits - Budai, Union 10; Fennick, Laurel 10; Jorgensen, Wilm 10; 6 tiedwith 9.Doubles - Weber, Moh 4; Argiro, Moh 3; Sean Fadden, Moh 3; Fenn ick, Laurel 3; Luffey, Shen 3; Randy Young, Shen 3; Joe Zimolong, Nesh3.Triples - Larry Beach, Union 3; Bill Cook, Laurel 2; William DeCar-bo, Shen 2; Tim Mosley, Moh 2; 9 tied with 1.Home runs - Craig Mills, Riverside 2; Fadden, Shen 1; Jeff Grimes, Union 1; Alex Keddie, Shen 1; Mosley, Moh 1; Heath Smargiasso, Wilm 1.Runs batted in - Fadden, Moh 11; Kissick, Laurel 9; Mosley, Moh 9; DeCarbo, Shen 8; Cook, Laurel 6; BUI Pietsch, Laurel 6; Terry Young,Wilm 6.Stolen bases - Cook, Laurel 5; Dan D Angelo, Riverside 5; Argiro, Moh 4; Matt Klages, Riverside 4; Pietsch, Laurel 4; Smargiasso, Wilm 4.
