Fort Hill's Girls Win CVAL MeetJill Mandura won three events and placed second in another to power the Fort Hill High girls to the championship of the Cumberland Valley Athletic League Track and Field Meet, and Martinsburg won nine of the 16 events to run away with the boys title Friday night in the rain at Greenway Avenue Stadium.Led bv Mandura, the Fort Hill girls finished with 87 V2 points, 23 more than second-place North Hagerstown’s 64Vi. South Hagerstown was third with 44Vi points, Martinsburg was a close fourth with 43 and Allegany was last with 31.Mandura won the high jump, triple jump and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles. She came in second in the 400 meter run to Martinsburg’s Tanya Thomas.Kim Miller, Amy Troutman, Lisa Miller and the 400-meter relay team of Thomas, Troutman, Hunter and Miller were the other first-place finishers for the Lady Sentinels.Kim Miller won the shot put with a throw of 32 feet, 7Vi inches. Amy Troutman won the long jump with a leap of 15 feet,3 inches and Lisa Miller won the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.19.Bill Adams led a strong Bulldog squad from Martinsburg with two wins as four separate Bulldogs placed first, excluding the two relay winning teams.Martinsburg finished 91 points, easily outdistancing North Hagerstowns 67 V2 South Hagerstown was third with 36Vfe, Fort Hill was fourth with 34 and Allegany was a close fifth with 31.Adams won the 110-meter high hurdles and 300-meter intermediate hurdles. Eric Aulabaugh won the pole vault, Kevin Roman won the high jump while Brian Naderbousch took the discus. Tony Taylor won the 1600-meter run and the relay team of Adams, Roman, Baumgarnder and Washington took the 800 while the 400 relay team with Ferguson replacing Washington won in 45.67 to round out the Bulldog victories.Allegany’s Mike Reid was the only Cumberland area track participant to finish first with a throw of 50 feet,10V2 inches in the shot put.The rain began a half hour into the meet and caused the slow times and contributed to one injury. Fort Hill’s Tim Murphy was carried out of Greenway Avenue Stadium after falling on the slick runway of the triple jump. The extent and condition of Murphy’s injury was not known. The remaining jumps were halted and the triple jump was cancelled due to the conditions.Next year the Fort Hill Sentinels will be the host team of the CVAL track meet, with the inaugeration of two new members. Hedgesville and Jefferson, which enters the league next season, will increase the league to seven teams.Allegany’s and Fort Hill’s boys and girls track teams will both host dual meets next week at Greenway Avenue Stadium.
