rCentral Utah Athletes Show Up Well4. By DUANE PAYNEThreatening was the weather and also threatening were the junior high school athletes on the records that had been established by other athletes in bygone days at the 41st annual BYU Invitational Track and Field meet.Four records fell to the onrush-ing athletes. American Fork’s 440 yard relay team set a new mark in spinning around the oval in 47.5 besting the old record by 1/10 of a second.Wayne Chamberlain of East High school broke the mark in the 440 yard dash set in 1951 by Jimmy Pyne of Lincoln. The old mark 54.3, the new 54 flat.Possibly the most outstanding record that was broken was in the Division 2 shot put. Frey, Springville, bested the old record by more than six feet. The heave that was uncoiled by Frey to set the new record covered SS’lOK”.Central Utah junior high athletes placed in all but five events of the entire days schedule. Extremely impressive were the young thinclads in the Division T dashes and sprint relays. In the sprint relays the Division 1 speedsters from the Central Utah area took three out of five firsts. It would ' be difficult to pick an outstanding performer for the day but David Frey’s performance was an accreditable one,Dave Van Wagenen of West set a new Division III shot put record with a heave of 57 feet 4 inches.
