Sterling City wins meet, Forsan, Garden City vieROBERT LEE — Sterling City’s Eagles flew over the field here Wednesday to take the District 10-B boys track meet with 187 points outdistancing second-place Water Valley which had 121.Jeff Copeland and Roy Currington led the Eagle effort with two individual wins each. Copeland ran the 100-yard dash in 10.4 for the win and then clocked 23.6 to nab the 220 victory while Currington took the shot put with a 46-4 /2 and then won the discus with a spin of 116-0.Forsan held their own in a strong field of competitors and three of the team members qualified for the Region I track meet April 29.Garden City also faired well against a wide-open slate of events and had placed five members of their team to assure a spot on the track finals in Levelland.Also taking wins for Sterling were Benny Raddewith a 15.8 in the 120 high hurdles while teammate Lee Fleming won the 330 intermediates with a 43.5.Sterling won the sprintrelay with a 46.3 while Water Valley took the mile relay in3:50.5.Other individual wins were by Steve Smith of Garden City with 2:13 in the 880, Wade Demer of Water Valley who hit 55.3 in the quarter and long jumped 20-1, Frank Cantu of Grady who won the mile with a 5:10.5 and Mackie Williams of Water Valley with a 8-6 in the pole vault along with Fuentes of Sterling City who also hit 8-6.Marty Whetsel of Forsan won the high jump with a 5-8.The top two finishers in each event will travel to Levelland April 29 for the Region I track meet.10 B RESULTSTeam Totals — 1.
