Captain Ritchie Resigns.Tackson Elected to Succeed Him on theBaseball Team.At a meeting of the baseball team, held in the training-house last evening, the resignation of M. I). Ritchie, }99M., from the captaincy of the team, was accepted, and M. R. Jackson was unanimously elected to fill the position, Ritchie’s reason for resigning is press of studies, since he played on the reserve football team last fall. It is likely that Jackson will go into the outfield and that Hayden will cover second base during the remainder of the season.This is Ritchie’s third year on the team, as he pitched the last five games iti ’96. Last year he did some little pitching but also played in the field and at short stop as his arm troubled him and would not allow hi in to pitch. He is a good all round athlete, having been a good runner before enteringPennsylvania. He played quarterback on the Reserve football team last fall and was one of the ’Varsity substitutes for that position.This is Jackson’s third year on thebaseball team, while last fall was hishe was a substitute the year before.
