8 OUT OF 9 MATCHES FROM LAKELAHDThe OSC tennis squad made an auspicious debut last Saturday at Menominee Park. They out-played Lakeland College 8-1, meaning that out of nine matches (six singles and three doubles) OSC lost only one. The one loss fell to the No. 3 singles player, who had one of those days that should not befall a dog.The day began with Oshkosh squeegying the courts and Lakeland arriving about the time they were clear. There was no doubt about poor conditions when Doug Melius found his raquet gutfraying from the wet.Dick Normand and Brauger Zeitler finished their sets first, Normand winning 6-1, 6-3 and Zeitler defeating his opponent6-2, 6-3. Playing doubles, they won 6-1, 6-2. Andy Whittaker won a three set game 7-5, 7-6, 6-4. Andy is a good player to watch in action, not only for his consistancy, but for a lesson in sportsmanship. He plays a serious game in that hedoes not explode and tear atthe court with his teeth every time he makes an error of some sort. As a result he probably gets more satisfaction out of his game. Jungers and Melius won their doubles match in three sets, 6-8, 6-2, and 6-2. Doug Melius, the only freshman on the varsity squad, and Lowell Tubbs also won their matches.
