Harrell, Richardson top list of state track and field bestsOne week into the high school track and field season and Howard Harrell and Passion Richardson have already served notice that they'll be tough to beat this season.Harrell, a Monroe senior, has a throw of 53-9‘ 2 in the boys shot put, nearly 10 feet farther than the next best effort so far this season. Harrell's 154-7 toss in the discus last week, his only legal throw in three tries, is 16 feet ahead of the second best effort in Alaska.Richardson, the Lathrop fresh man, raced to a 12.3 clocking in the girls 100-meter dash, a half-second faster than West Valley’s Kyrra Casey, whose 12.8 is the second quickest. Richardson won the 200 in 26.4, slightly more than a second infront of teammate Andrette Jackson. Both Richardson and Jackson ran legs on the Malemute 400 and 800 relay teams, which have the fastest times in the state so far. Lathrop covered the shorter distance in 50.8 and the two-lap relay in 1:47.4.West Valley freshman Stephanie King is the only other Interior trackster to hold a state best as of Wednesday. She’s tied with Bartlett’s Beth Miernyk at 50.2 for the lead in the 300 intermediate hurdles.Early season training around the state has been hampered by wet conditions on the tracks. The Southeast and Kenai-Soldotna areas hadn't held meets as of Wednesday.Interior tracksters are back in action at 3:30 p.m. Friday at West Valley, where field events will be held. Running races begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at West Valley.HOWARD HARRELLWeight leader1600 relay—1 Bartlett. 3 36 9; 2. East Anchorage, 3:38 6; 3. Palmer, 3:41.3; 4 Chugiak, 3:41.7; 5.
