Ray is co-captain of this year's PSC team, and he is leading itin hits and doubles.Ray Brayboy May Be Best Of Brothers At PembrokePEMBROKE - As an outfielder or first baseman, an extremely multi-talented Pembroke State College baseball plnyer is Ray Brayboy, a Lum-bee Indian who unsuperstitious-ly wears No. 13.He is the last of four brothers to perform for the Braves’ baseball powerhouse and could be the best of the lot.Two years ago, as a sophomore. Ray was an honorable mention NAIA All-America outfielder when he sticked .346. Last year he suffered an ankle injury after eight games — and missed nine contests. He could never regain Ivs batting form and wound up with a .267 average.This campaign as a 5-10, 170-pound senior whose mannerisms resemble James Cagney's. Brayboy is blazing away wHh a .369 average and loads Pembroke in hits and doubles. Hebats in the important No. 3 slot in the lineup.Brayboy is equally skillful as a left handed first baseman or outfielder, alternating between those two positions. It depends 1 on whether the Braves are facing right or left-handed pitching.He rarely strikes out. fanning only once in his first 48 times at bat. Like former star Yogi Barra of the New York Yankees. Brayboy is a sticker who always hits the ball somewhere. He bats right - handed despite being a left-handed thrower.And like Enos Slaughter, former St. Louis Cardinal great, he is a tremendous hustler. If a ball can possibly be caught, the speedy Brayboy will get to it.His brothers arc Bobby. 30; Tim, 28. and Tee. 27. Each worked his way Jiroueh Pembroke State College and starredin baseball. Bobby finished college in three years and is now working on his doctorate in Education at the University of New Mexico. He was a pitcher at PSC. Tim is working with the government in its poverty program at Waynesville as a supervisor. He was all - Ma rine as a baseball infielder and football halfback at Cherry Point, a consistent .300 hitter. Ht played shortstop and second base at PSC. Tee was a catcher at PSC and is now athletic director of three high schools in West Chester. Pa.Not only is Ray a fine athlete, but a campus leader as well. He has made the Dean’s List and is a member of Who’s WTho in American College and 1 Schools. He is athletic repre-, sentative to the Student Govern-, . mcnt Association and also stu-1 dent representative to the intra-‘ mural and intercollegiate committee. !
