Many Colts Are Entered In Approaching Race ClassicsA total of 147 colts, representing eighty-five owners in twelve states, have been entered in the 1937 Hoosier Stake Series for 2-year-old trotters and pacers, according to Harrie Jones of this city, secretary of the Indiana Trotting and Pacing Horse Association.Indiana is the home of 93 of the entrants. Fourteen come from Ohio, eleven from Illinois, and others from Wisconsin, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Alabama, Florida, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.Seventy-four of the colts are entered in the trotting division of the series, and seventy-three are pacers. They will begin tenconsecutive weeks of racing at Anderson early in July. After contests at Franklin, Columbus, Lawrenceburg, Muncie, Shelby-ville, Connersville, Logansport and Washington, in that order, the youngsters will compete in the final races of the season at the Indiana State Fair in September.The Palin-Baker stable of Indianapolis, whose colt, Athlone’s Iosola Guy, won the trotting division in 1936, will attempt to repeat again this summer with hopes pinned on four young trotters, Dita, Love in Bloom,Ophir Guy, and Pearl McElwyn.Leo McNamara, also of Indianapolis, whose little black pacer, Hal Cochato, won the pacing trophy a year ago, hasthree pacers entered this summer, Reddy Dale, Cochato Hal, and Miss Hal Dale. All are sired by Hal Dale, McNamara,’s sensational young stallion which sired his winning colt in 1936.
