AUSTIN MAGUIRE'S HONORS.Wins Two Bouts of Three Rounds anda Four-Round Go at Gloucester A.C. Exhibition.GLOUCESTER, April 19—The bouts at the Gloucester A. C. this afternoon were attended by a large number and heartily enjoyed, although'the out-of-town talent carried off the honors.Fred McDonald, the best men of his weight In the city, who was entered and who would have made it interesting for the visitors, died last night at the Gilbert hospital of pne’amonia after a sickness of about a week. Fred served in Co G. 8th Massachusetts, during the Spanish-American war and leav-s a large number of friends. He was 23.The glory of the day belonged to Austin Maguire of Boston, who was called on for two three-round and a four-roupd fight, and got the decision in all.The first bout was between J. Fhalen, 124, of the Gloucester A. C. and J, Crowley, 123, of Charlestow'n. Phaien put up a game fight, but Crowley did tin* cleverer work and was awarded the decision.The second bo’ut was between Manuel Ferris. 126^, of the Gloucester A. C. and Austin Maguire, 128, of Boston, and the latter scored his first victory in three rounds.The third bout, between local amateurs, woke up the sports. Jack Nugent, 135, went against John A. Sullivan, 138. Honors were | quite even, and an extra round of two minutes was ordered, the decision going to Maguire.The final was between Maguire and Crowley, and was a prettily contestedbout, both men doing great work.
