MINDPOWERThe seed of a new person is found within the Oriental Martial Arts -one whose strength is the clarity and perception developed by mind body discipline. This allows the whole body and psychic energy to be directed in a single way. It enables the practitioner to accomplish feats of strength and self-defense which amaze the uninitiated, but are viewed as commonplace among those who have come to realise their potential. At the Yun Mu Kwan school the movements of Tai Chi Chuan, Kung Fu, Karate and Oriental weapons systems are taught and practiced. The Yun Mu Kwan style is based on the principles of five animals:The DRAGON for body strength. The CRANE for sinew, hidden and spiritual strength. The SNAKE for psychic energy, (chi, ki, prana or serpent power.)The TIGER for bone strength. The LEOPARD for inner and outer strength.Through mastering these forms with proper breathing techniques, you begin to understand the principle of each animal: hard and soft, full and empty, circle within circle, the feeling of sameness within and without. Each movement flows into another and you feel that you are swimming in the air as though it were water, that surrounding space is alive, an extension of yourself. As you move, all of the tensions and unconscious areas of your body are clearly revealed to the practiced eye. A teacher, working with you slowly and patiently, helps you to bring consciousness to every area of your body. The establishment of your natural center of gravity, just below the navel, and Oriental techniques of breathing, which tune the body to its deepest internal rhythms, enable us to merge conscious and subconscious. Through an ongoing stream of internal awareness you venture towards a profound self-evolution, the transmutation and unification of mind, spirit and body. You gain sensitivity to the world of your body, its fine balance, gravitational solidity and centeredness. It is allowed to function with greater relaxation and stability, giving you a feeling of freedom, security and unusual physical sensitivity. The sensory world seems richer and you develop a spontaneous response to every changing circumstance. While you are becoming skillful at the Martial Arts you will acquire useful attitudes towards other learning and other tasks. The release of psychic energy comes only when we have learned proper breathing, correct posture and the state of mind body necessary for intense concentration. These habits will carry over to other areas of your life and you will find yourself able to become increasingly at one with any problem. In addition, with the release of psychic and sexual energy (or Libido) through mind body unity, some people achieve a feeling of indescribable happiness, in w'hich the mind seems to grow, extending everywhere, like light from the sun. The intellect remains intact and unaffected, and the outer world and the inner seem to stand side byside. From the point of consciousness, the soul seem to extend limitlessly. There is no guarantee for the achievement of these last sensations, but the other advantages of studying the Oriental Martial Arts, cited above, are certainly obtainable by all who wholeheartedly study thisancient system of learning.Master Min Q.
