Pipersroll inopener•PITTSBURGH (UPD-Konnie Hawkins of the Pittsburgh Fipers lives up to his reputation as the American Basketball Association’s most valuable player and high scorer.• The sharpsbooting Hankins poured in 39 points, 28 of them in the second half, to pace the Pipers to a 120-112 victory Thursday night over the New Orleans Buccaneers in the opening game of a best-of-seven league championship playoff series at the Civic Arena here. Pickup 3rd pgh: Teammate.Teammate Charlie Williams dumped ia 26 points, 22 of them in the first half while Pittsburgh built up a 60-50 halftime lead. The game see-sawed through the first quarter but a layup by Williams as the period ended gave the Pipers a 25-24 lead.
