THE Abilene Black Eagles have returned to the local sportingsceneThe \eteran Luther (Pink'* Graves, prominent in West Texasnegro baseball circles for the past 30 years, had his club in Blue Sox stadium for a late afternoon workout yesterday.The Black Eagles are a mixture of old-timers and kids, butGraves savs they'll do.He takes his club to Sweetwater Sunday afternoon and thenSwee* water comes here Sunday, May 5.Graves also clans to book some of the leading negro aggregations of the entire nation for local appearances.“Our baseball will be strictly first class.” he says. “That’s the only type I care about having my name associated with.The first big-time colored attraction will probably be Portland and Seattle here on the night of May 7 Both clubs are in the Pacific Coast negro league and will be on their way home from Spring training in New Orleans.Graves also hopes to brine such teams to Abilene as the Cincinnati Clowns. Homestead Grays and Kansas City Monarchs.
