In CrewBrooke High’s crew team, awaiting approval to compete in two major interscholastic meets, took on highly-regarded Marietta Saturday afternoon at Wellsburg, the girls varsity team managing the only victory.A good crowd was on hand to view the contests, which started at the Fifth Street Pier in Wellsburg on the Ohio River.The Brooke girls prevailed over Marietta, 3:47.8 to 3:54.2. The race is competed over a 1,000 meter course or two-thirds mile.Other scores for the day had the Marietta Varsity Boys winning over Brooke, 5:37:1 to 6:19.6; the boys junior varisty losing, 5:16.4 to 5:31.4 and the Brooke novice team going down, 4:19.8 to4:29.5.The Brooke Varsity boys were leading Marietta’s strong team until an oar lock broke.
