Stock season opens tonight at County Fair SpeedwayBy BOB ABBORINOMIDDLETOWN No one at Orange County Fair Speedway will throw out a first tire or seat belt to officially kick-off the stock car season here tonight, but racing fans have beenawaiting this opener with the same impatience as baseball fans awaited the major league openers two weeks ago.'‘Thank God/’ sighed a teenage boy Friday. He asked to remain unidentified because hehadn’t vet coaxed his father into ■taking him to the track tonight.“The months between October and April are really dull.** a young mother of two. who attends the races at the local track everv Saturday night, said. “But once the track opens. In past years, the modified was the last feature race of the evening. This vear, it will be run between the Semi-Late and the Limited Sportsman divisions.“The biggest indication of a great season, though, is the fact that we had over 75 drivers tuning up their cars at the track last Sunday, and that Wili Cagle and Ai Tasnady can be expected to bump heads practically every Saturday night/’ Granger said.Cagle and Tasnady are expected to be among the starters tonight, along with Rags Carter.Budd Olson, Sonny Strupp. Eddie Mann. Jackie Evans. Pee Wee Griffin and Dannv Mitchell.Cagle won the point title for an unprecedented fifth coisecutive vear in 1969. but he will be hotly pressed this year by Tasnady. one of the top drivers on the East Coast this vear.In past years. Tasnady raced at Orange Speedway only for the big races. He closed out the 1969 season here by taking the big Eastern States 200.Buzzv Ruetimann. who finished second to Cagle last year in the point race, will not be present for tonight's opener. Personal problems will keep him in Florida for at least another month.Eddie Mann and Danny Mitchell could be the. sleepers among the modified drivers. Mitchell will be racing a brand-new car he put together this winter and which cost him in excess of $10,000.Mitchell blew the engine last Sunday in a warm-up, but expects to have it ready for tonight’snnening races.“The bore was too large.”Mitchell said. “We had it at 443.
