Riverside Park was most auspicious-ly opened yesterday afternoon, by agrim and determined battle betweenthe Illinois Iowa league team andTierney Hammond's local club.An extended review of the game isunnecessary, sufficient thereof is it toremark that the game abounded inmany brilliant plays, and exhibitionsof the serio-comic order sufficient toconvulse the 250 spectators with immoderate laughter.The league team showed up in splendid form, impressing all with the ideathat they are in the race as penantwinners. Tierney Hammond’s combination made a very pleasing appear ance in their natty uniforms of whiteflannel. With a little more teampractice they will make a very creditable showing.In the absence of Sargent, theirpitcher, Webber officiated in the boxand did some very efficient work.Sullivan’s work behind the bat wasfirst-class, considering the fact that luhad never received Webler, who isvery speedy, before.Frank Clark, our popular secretary,sustained a very painful injury.
