Babe Didrickson to Play in Intercity Golf Tournament At Galveston Country ClubIn company with about SO other women golfers from South Texas. Babe Didrickson. famous woman athlete, will compete in the intercity golf iournamenl here today held by the Women’s Golf Association of Galveston Country Club. Guests will be from two Houston clubs, the Houston Country Club and River Oaks Country Club and from Beaumont, Orange and Port Arthur lcubs.Miss Didrickson, who played the course yesterday, is expected to tee off with the first foursome at 9:30 o'clock this morning. The women guests will play all morning and will be entertained at luncheon at noon. Fifteen awards of various kinds, which have been donated by local merchants, will be given the winners.Mrs. Jules Jacobs is president of the association and Mrs. Willard Cooke is general chairman of the tournament. Other members are assisting on the various committees.Galveston women have already been guests of the other cities in the series of tournaments.Miss Didrickson is eligible to compete in the tournament because sheMildred (Babe) Didrickson, most famous of all women athletes, and sensation in the last Olympic games, arrived in Galveston yesterday to participate in the intercity golf meet at the country club.Questioned as to reports that she was to join the House of David baseball team, she quickly confirmed them. She will leave Texas the latter part of this month to join the team about May 15. She denied reports from the team's business manager that she to receive $1000 a month, stating that she was to get 51500.Miss Didrickson said she was to take her turn on the maundy for the bearded nine as a regular pitcher, hoping to become the club's “ace.”She will compete in several other women’s golf tourneys over the state before leaving to start her baseball career. She has pitched in several exhibition baseball games this spring against major league clubs and also last spring, when she fanned several big league hitting stars.BABE IMDKICHSOX.is ranked as an amateur by the U.
