Pirates Sweep DoubleheaderSPENCER TWP - Senior Ed Ramey put together a no-hitter in the first game as Black River swept a double-header from visiting Norwalk St. Paul Saturday.The two Firelands Conference victories, 84) and 6-4, were Black River’s first wins of the season and evened the Pirates’ record at 2-2.Ramey allowed just two flyers to reach base in his shutout. One man got to base on a first-inning walk and another made it to first base on a sixth-inning error.That walk was the only one Ramey permitted as he went the distance and fanned a dozen St. Paul batters.Black River scored twice in the third inning, once in the fourth, and five more times in the fifth. All the Pirate hits were singles.ALarry Chapman, Ramey, and Brad Bright smacked two runs batted in apiece while Jeff Nixon and Rich Dietrich added one RBI each.In the nightcap, Keith Kline went the distance on the mound as River needed some late runs to hand St. Paul a 6-4 setback.The Flyers scored twice in the opening inning and pushed across two more runs in the top of the fifth for a 4-2 lead. But the Pirates surged out to a 5-4command with a three-run barrage in the bottom of the fifth.The Rivermen added their final tallyin the sixth.The Flyers’ Bill Oliva smashed a two-run double off Kline in the fifth inning for St. Paul’s only earned runs. Ramey doubled in the first inning for River, scoring one run.Kline, pitching his first complete game of the year, struck out nine Norwalk batters and walked one. He gave upfour runs off four hits. Dale Frey was the loser, giving up five runs off four safeties.
