Mile Record May Fall in Hank Powers Relay CarnivalWith most of the seven schools entered possessing better than usual distance men, track critics expected a new record to be set in the special mile event In the third annual Hank Powers relay carnival at the Lincoln stadium Friday afternoon.The relays will start officially at 3:15 p. m.The special mile is the only event on the program of 11 events that isn’t a relay. The relay events are: Qiiarter-roile, sophomore and varsity; half-mile, sophomore andvarsity; mile, varsity; medley, varsity, shuttle hurdle, sophomore and varsity; shotput, varsity, and pole-vault, varsity.More than 150 athletes are expected to compete, Coach Powers will enter teams in all events, whileCoach George Hays' Rupert trackmen, 1946 district champions, will be seen in all but one. Coach Rulon Budge, Burley: Coach Grant Maughan, Buhl; Coach Pete Taylor, Jerome, and Coach Ralph Vil-ters, Gooding, w 111 enter their speedsters in most of the events.While Oakley will be represented by a small squad, much interest will be shown in the Hornets because of the presence of their crack pole-vauller, Martindale. lie is favored to win both the state pole vault and high jump title this year.Every Magic Valley class A school will be rcpersented except Coach Maurice Clayton’s Filer Wildcats.
