Coach Pam Faulkner's ninth grade girls track team totally overwhelmed all conpetition Thursday night to win the District 24-4A championship in better-than-grand style.The Vikings ran up 286 points, lighting up the leader sheet like a pinball machine. The second place team, Angleton, scored 102.In the process, the Vikings set seven district freshman records.All the relay teams took firsts and set records. The sprint relay team of Cheryl Cook, Valencia Allen, Maria Castro and AnitaJackson ran a 51.6.The 880 relay teamof Cook, Allen, Loreatha Johnson and Jackson ran a 1:50.5.The mile relay team, Christy Brown, Karen Mahoney, Nancy Trevino and DeeDee Lamar, ran a4:31The Viks took first, second and third in the 440, paced by Trevino, who ran a record 66 flat. Tammy Wedborn was second and Teri Nicolaidis was third.Jackson set yet another record in the 220 in 26.4. Johnson was second.The Vikings also swept the first three places in the 60, with Brown winning in 7.5. Priscilla Lee took second and Maggie Smith third.Cook won the 80-yard hurdles in 12.6, while Brownwas second and Lamar fifth.Allen won the 100 in 11.9.Lee was fourth and Katherine McDonald sixth.Lamar was second in the 880 in 2:37. Carol Hill was third in 2:38.9.Cook set another record in the long jump, going 15-9.Jackson was third at 15-4♦Vz. Brown was sixth.Alien added another record in the triple at 32-4 '/■, followed by Dorothy Pinesette, second at 31-3.DISTRICT CHAMPS—The ninth grade girls track team is all smiles after devouring the rest of the competition on the way to the District 24-4A crown last Thursday in Pearland. Pinesette was fifth at 80-11.In all, Cook took four firsts, as did Allen.
