Horse racing fans are reminded to plan thissummer to attend the jockey races at the AnokaCounty fairgrounds June and n»-i7. For the pasttwo summers I’ve really enjoyed these races.I wish thev'd work in some sulkv races. Thev had somethere a few’ years ago but I missed out The problem is tiie starting gates. Back in the old days when we used to have races at the Folk County fairgrounds in Crookston they didn't have such things as starting gates They had the drivers take their horse to the far curve then come down in front of the stands with a running start Once in aw hile some driver would get too good a start and they 'd call the race back and restart it.This was more fun to watch than any pro football game today is. I hope someday they get horse racing back on a regular schedule. This would create a lot of new jobs. Many feel they have to have pari-mutual betting to make horse racing pay off. I don’t think so. It would help though.
