April 13 — CP— Paul Mahara of Trail junior Smoke Eaters yesterday received a three-year suspension from organized hockey. The suspension was meted out by the Canadian Amatuer Hockey Association at its annual meeting here Mahara was charged with a count of twice falsifying baptismal papers. He played with the Trail team in the Western Memorial Cup playoffs and caused his team to forfeit three games of a series against Rgina Commandos. The Trail team defeated the Commandos and then won the western title. They nowmeet Oshawa Generals for the Memorial Cup.A signed confession from Mahara was shown to the meeting and it was decided not to anply the maximum amount of live-j ear suspension for each an offence The minimum suspension prescribed by the rules of the C.A.H.A. is two years. ALBERTA REQUEST FOR LARGER GRANT REFUSED MONTREAL, April 13 —(CP)—Fin-branch spent $2,084.77 and Manitoba’s total was $2,026.75.Alberta spent a total of $1,579.27; Saskatchewan, $1,342.00; Thunder Bay district, $1,211.88; and Ontario, $1,150.00.The grants for minor hockey were raised in the Maritimes, Quebec, Ontario, Ottawa district and British Columbia to conform with the mid-west branches* grants of $1500.A request by the Alberta Amateur Hockey association for an additional grant to the $1,500 given the association by the C.A.H.A. yearly was turned down.The finance committee m a statement made to the C.A.H.A. meeting said that it could not see its way clear to give an additional $1,000 to the Alberta association- They asked that the A.A.H.A. attempt to carry on as best as possible for th# next season.The Alberta request was made by Jack W. Moss, president of the Alberta association, and Dr. W. G. Hardy, life member and presidentof the International Ice Hockey Association.Alberta financial statement showed a loss of $1,264.30 for the 1943-44 season. Total receipts were listed at $340.24, while the expenditures were $1,604.54.
