Belton Nine BidsFor Unbeaten HalfThe only game standing in the way of an undefeated first round of district baseball for the Belton High School Tigers is University High School in Waco tomorrow night.The contest is scheduled for 7:30 with no junior varsity contest on tap.After this, the Tigers will face the tough task of playing each team with its unhappiness over having lost its first round match again.They will go to Leander on Tuesday.Last Tuesday, the BHS nine slipped by the Taylor Ducks to boost their season record to 12-5, but they had to come from behind to do it.Continuing a tradition of mbtual support, junior Brian Patton (one of 'the Tigers main hurlers) blasted two-out, three run double in the fifth inning to help Sophomore Chad Tidwell pick up his fourth win against one loss.This gave the Tigers their fifth consecutive win and eighth straight at home.The game marksc the first time for Belton to give up five runs at home. Taylor became the first team since Temple's 10-9 win to score more than four against the Tigers.Patton's double came after theTaylor hurler walked leading Beltonhitter Toby Rumfield to load the bases. The inning started with singles by designated hitter Chris McCloud and Jeff Martin and long sacrifice fly by Jeff Potvin.Rumfield went O-for-2, but scored one run. Martin, Potvin and Patton were 2-for-3.Friday, a pair of solo home-nms by Rumfield provided the winning margin for Patton to pick up his fourth win of the season when the Tigers beat Midway in Hewitt 2-1.Patton allowed only one unearned run while striking out six.The win was the first for Belton on the Waco school's home field and fulfilled a special dream for Patton. \ -'Rumfield’s blasts came in the fourth and sixth innings with Midway scoring their lone run in the bottom of the sixth.The only other two Tigers to collect hits in the contest were Jimmy Spradley and Jeff Martin as both teams wound up with four hits each on the evening.The game turned out to be more of a pitcher's duel between Patton and Mike Wood with Belton leaving only two baserunners stranded and Midway three.
