Even when one side has a palpable advantage, a determined effort bv the dis-•radvantaged player often will gain thedraw.A necessary element for good defense is mobility and coordination of the pieces. The great players, especially, will almost never yield on this principle. Piece activity is so important that it is better to sacrifice small material, i.e.. a pawn, than settle for an awkward, hobbled position.loses material! (i.e., 1. R R3, NxP!). Hechose 1.
