Succeeds MctachronREGENTS PICKPREP MENTORLawlor Is Elevated; Edsall Also SelectedBy ROLLAN MELTON (Gazette Sports Editor)Dick Trachok, for a decade coach at Reno Hiffh school, todav was named head football coach at the University of Nevada, and Glenn “Jake” Lawlor, basketball coach at Nevada 15 seasons, was elevated to director »f intercollegiate athletics.The school’s board of regents made the appointment official this morning. The board met in Las Vegas.Trachok. 33, succeeds GordonGLENN “JAKE” LAWLORMcEachron who resigned earlythis year of ter lour seasons. There were 84 applicants for the job.Regents also approved Floyd Edsall, 37, as new freshman basketball coach and line coach under Trachok. Edsall is presently coach at Sparks high school and his 12 years in coaching include seven years at Elko and three at Lovelock.PREP VACANCIESAppointments of Trachok and Edsall leave football coaching assignments at Reno and Sparks unfilledLawlor, 51, is senior atlileticstaff member at Nevada. Regents today approved Dr. Art Bro ten’s recommendation that Lawlor be relieved of the basketball job and promoted to the athletic directorship and also approved his rise to rank of associate professor from assistant professor.Lawlor will continue as headbaseball coach. There will be no immediate appointment of a now basketball coach, it was indicated, although there are already several applicants.Regents also approved revision of the Health, Physical Education and Athletic Department to “Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department/'PPAWV TP’T T’.VATP.D
