Nogay powers Westminsterin doubleheader sweepNew Castle native and Union High grad Rob Nogay smashed two home runs as the Westminster College baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader yesterday atGrove City.The Titans got a two-run shot by Nogay in the third inning of the opener for a 9-2 victory. Second baseman Geoff Palmer helped the cause with a key two-run double, while freshman Ben O’Connor pitched five innings of two-hit ball for his first collegiate win.OVERTIMEIn the nightcap, Nogay’s solo blast in the top of the first ultimately led to a 10-0 triumph called after five innings due to the 10 run rule. The homer was the seventh of theseason for the center fielder - tops among all Titans.Echoing Nogay’s brilliance at the plate, Shaler grad John Silicia had a grand slam and three-run homer in the two games for Westminster. His three-run first-inningclout gave the Titans an early 3-0 lead in theopener.In the nightcap, Silicia provided the final blow with a grand-slam in the fourth.On the mound, Shawn Mars went the distance in game two, allowing just two hit to improved to 2-0 on the season.At 10-0, the Titans are off to their best start in school history.Westminster looks to extend its winning streak to an even dozen today at St. Vincent College.The Keystone-Empire Collegiate.Confer-ence doubleheader gets under way at 1 p.m.
