Oshkosh Plays Sheboygan in Cage TourneyChicago— (JP) —Seven clubs in the National Basketball league and a strong independent team, the Dow Chemicals of Midland, Mich., enter the quarterfinals, of the invitational cage tournament in Chicago stadium tonight.While the seven NBL teams are battling for what is billed as the “world’s pro championship, the Chicago Gears and Rochester Royals, other league members, meet tonight in the International amphitheater in the third game of their series for the loop’s playoff title.The tournament round sends the Sheboygan Redskins against the Oshkosh All-Stars in an all-Wisconsin opener at 7 p. m. (CST); the Anderson Packers against the Fort Wayne Zollners in an Indiana showdown; the Indianapolis Kautskys against the Tri-City Blackhawks of Moline, 111., and Dow Chemical against the Toledo Jeeps.Two upsets were registered in first round games Sunday night when Toledo ousted the highly-touted New York Rens 62-59 and the Blackhawks disposed of the Baltimore Bullets, a pre-meet favorite after winning the American league championship, 57-46. The third game Sunday night went according to form with Sheboygan walloping the Portland, Ore., Indians 72-48 by pouring in 27 points in the last quarter.In Saturday night’s inaugural set of first round contests, Oshkosh beat the Mohawks of Herkimer, N. Y., 60-54; Anderson downed the Pittsburgh Pirates 59-38 and Dow Chemical eliminated the eighth National basketball league team entered, the Syracuse Nationals, 71-39.
