BarriersEDMONTON, April 7 — Proposal that amateur laws be altered slightly to permit consideration of j reinstatement of Class A professionals as amateurs was approved generally at a meetinc of Amateur Athletic Union of Canada officials here, it was learned yesterday.The officials met here Wednesday while en route to Vancouver to attend the Canadian Amateur Hockey association annual meeting. Those attending included W. A. Fry, of Dunnville, Ont., vice-president of the A.A.U. of C., who presided, and members of the Alberta branch of the union.'Hie suggested change in amateurrules was made by Dr. W. G. Hardy, of Edmonton, president of the Alberta Hockey association. Mr. Fry and P. J. Mulqueen, of Toronto, chairman of the Canadian Olympic committee, and several other union officials from the east were understood to have given their approval.It was announced an amendment to the present rules regarding Class A professionals, which would permit consideration of reinstatement as amateurs, would bo introduced at the A.A.U. of C. annual meeting in Regina next fall.The change would permit reinstatement of young men who turned profe.ssional and find themselvesunsuccessful in the money ranks after two or three months’ trial.The conference here was held with the object of ironing out difficulties between the mother body and the Alberta branch of the A.A.U. of C. over cards issued to two Edmonton hockey players who played pro. hockey but wished to regain their amateur standings. The Dominion body previously had ordered cancellation of the cardswith threat of suspension for the Alberta body if it failed to abide by instructions.Tlie Alberta officials have not cancelled the cards but no suspension is looked for and it is expected reinstatement applicationswill be made by the* players inquestion when the Regina meeting occurs. Among the eastern officials at the meeting here were H. F. Tennant, Amherst, N.S.; Cecil Duncan, Ottawa; P. P. Bond, Peterboro; J.Frank Plaxton. Whitby, Ont., and W. A.
