N E Gets Big Name RacinaBOSTON (UPI - Racing great Buddy Baker said it is only a mat ter of time before a major speed way is built in New England because the fans are certainly here.”Baker’s spoke at a news con ference called to announce the establishment of a Showdown of Champions” series to be held at Hudson Speedway in New Hamp shire on Aug. 5, and two days later at Thompson Speedway inConnecticut.Baker, who owns the world land speed record for 500 miles, will be one of the participants, along with Richard Petty, the winningest driver in auto racing history, with $5.3 million in earnings through 1983.The competition will be the first time Petty has raced on a quarter mile track since thb mid 1960s. The series was organized by the New England Super Modified Racing Association.
