Pearce now owns a 4-1 record to Greenville’s 3-1 and Richardson’sand Paris’ 2-1.Lion Mike Ingram was the one most responsible for doing in the Mustangs. Ingram hurled a three-hitter at Pearce and the Mustangs didn’t get a hit till senior Mark Ward led off the sixth inning with a single.Ingram went the distance for Greenville giving up the one run. He walked five and struck out 10 Mustang hitters. But Mustang David Pieczynski didn't pitch that bad, either. Pieczynski gave up only four hits with four walks and seven strike outs. He also wait the distance. But Pearce’s trouble was the clutch hit. The Mustangs', left eight runners on during the contest including two in each the final two frames.Greenville got on the score ooard first when Jim Adams walked after one was out and then Reginald Hill doubled. Adams then scored on a wild pitch by Pieczynski and Hill moved to third.Hill then scored on infield single by Gary Sprinkle. The Mustangs fought back in their half of the inning with their only run of the game. Leadoff hitter Carl Grulich led off with a walk and after Greg Gallier flew out attempting to sacrifice Mark Ward walked. While Ward was hitting Grulich stole second and went to third on a passed ball. Grulich then scored when Kim Noland bounced into a fielder’s choice.Jeff Sage then flew out to second and Steve Robertsonthen was hit by a pitch to load the bases. But Pieczynski flew out toHill in left to end the rallyPearce’s next opportunity to score came in the sixth when Ward led off with his single and on the hit and run Noland hit a soft fly ball to center which fell in for a hit.But Ward was caught half way between second and third wondering if it was going to be caught and he was thrown out at the latter on a close play.Sage then followed with a walk to put runners on first and second but Phil Rogers struck out and Pieczynski grounded out to end the uprising.Pearce tried to rally onceagain in the final inning.
