Tex. - WichitaFalls, Iowa Park and Quanah were the only Wichita Falls area teams able to even scratch in• ithe tough field of 900 athletes in the giant Sandy Relays held here Friday and Saturday.In the division for schools below AAA classification, Iowa Park was runnerup to division champion Amarillo Carver, which had 155 points, with a meager 55 points. Quanah'Was only a point behind the Hawks of Iowa Park with 54.Carver picked up 20 points In the relay with a 42 3 record race. In the 880 dash, Jake Schmidt of Iowa Park was fourth to winner Edward Amos of Carver who clocked a 1 57 2 Robert Patterson, of Carver and I^arry Thomp-spectacular 22-m with Thompson third at 21-11A4.Carver copped the mile relay in 3:21.1, leaving everyone farbehind.Terry May of Iowa Park heaved the shot 50-7 */2 for a first in the event and teammate Robert Dawson was fourth at 45-1034 Richardson of Quanah won the High jump at 5-lOVfe. Dawson was fourth in the discus with 136-6 while the yinner threw 164-8*4Thompson was a foot below the winner in the pole vault at 11-6. good for fourth.While Amarillo Taseosa, under the leadership of coach Bill Car ter, former Iowa Park head mentor, was running away with the AAA and AAAA school division, Wichita FalLs schools,,Jwere little more than spectators recordingson of Iowa Park each were .*• a only 18 points. Taseosa won withtimed in 14.9 in the high hurdles , .i »i_i _»_ _138*2 and Palo Duro was runner-but the Hawk athlete was relegated to second position. Teammate Danny Tarbet was third followed by Terry Richardson and Chuck Hobbs both of Quanah.John Holmes of Quanah was second to Nelson Huff of Carver in both the 100 and 220 as the Amarillo speedster raced to shin-ing 9 7 and 21 8 times.Roy Stewart of Iowa Park was fifth in the 440 dash. In the 180 yard low hurdles, Chuck Hobbs of Quanah w as second behind the winner's 19.9 with Iowa Park's Thorr\pson .fourth and teammate Tarbet sixthDoug Jeffrey of Quanah was second and iimmy Skinner of Iow§ Park .fifth in the mile run. Terry' Richardson of Quanah and Bill Hughes of Booker tied for first in the broad- jump at aup with 65.Taseosa took the relavs with records of 42.1 in the 440 and 3:20.8 in the mile. Wichita FalLs took fourth in the mile relay.Bill Thompson of Wichita Falls was sixth m the 880 yard run with the winner clocked in 1:57.1. Brad Mackey of Wichita Falls ran a superb quarter in 50 1 but the time was good for only third as Jim Bennett of Taseosa ripped ' a 49.7.James Bell of Wichita Falls was fifth in the mire run behind \ u inner Mark Westbrook of Pam- j pa in a record 4:30.1. jRichard McCuistion of Vernon ' leaped 22-5*4 for second in thebroad jump, only two inches from first.
