I keep the league’s operating money in a bank here in Albany.”He said the funds, held in a dormant, interest-bearing escrow account at the Marine Midland Bank in Smithtown as a “rainy day” account for financial emergencies, were first noticed missing about two weeks ago.An employe of the Cougars, who asked to remain anonymous, said Utica Mutual made an audit Wednesday and found the money “in a certain eom--pany.” He declined to elaborate.The money was under the control of Gerry Lamoureux, league treasurer and general manager of the Long Island team. Lamoureux was elected treasurer at the start of the1974*75 season and opened the Smithtown account.League President James Matthews of Binghamton was unavailable for comment.In addition to the Cougars, the NAHL involves the Mohawk Valley Comets, Syracuse Blazers and Binghamton Broome Dusters in New York; the Maine Nordiques and Cape Codders in New England; and the Philadelphia firebirds and the Johnstown Jets in Pennsylvania.
