Some say pro football is not enlightened enough to confer such an important leadership position on a Negro. Some say the Negro is just too dumb to be a pro quarterback. Some say the Negro can't pass well enough to make it in the pros. Some say we really don't know if the Negro can be a pro quarterback because we’ve never given him a ' real test. i$ Why do Negroes excel at so many nlher positions and not at this one? Here is how a number of football people responded:LVince Lombardi, Green Bay Packers? “I can't remember a real great Negro quarterback In college ball — so far as what the pros are looking for. I wouldn’t give a damn what color a man was if he could throw the ball.”A Negro, coach, A. S. (Jake) Gaither of Florida A. and . M.: I don't feel that the Negro quarterback has had the opportunity.
