Tom Cross NamedTo UP's 'Little' QuintTom Cross, Waynesboro's 6:07 center, who virtually rewrote the South Perm and Waynesboro High School record books, has been named to the United Press’ first 'Little’ All-State team.It is the first time Waynesboro has ever gotten any recognition beyond the honorable mention brackets on an All-State team. The team was -selected by several hundred coaches and sports-writers from players competing in Class B and Class C. Cross played in the Class A South Penn Conference and appeared in the Class B eastern regionals.Another fine Irwin team which has dominated the PIAA Class B playoffs for several years placed three men on the first team.iIrwin’s miniature playm a k e r, five - foot, eight-inch Don Good, won top honors for the second straight year while the “Knights’' placed Charles Hursh on the second team and Colin Norberg on the third.Good is the only repeater on a first outfit which features a flock of good scoring men and two towering board controllers. Opponents credit him with a major share in the success of the “Knights” who have won the state title for the last two years. The big men on the team are Tom Cross, Tornado ace, and Mt. Penn’s Bob Mantz, who is two inch es shorter. Jones, Harding and Dreisbach are all average height but each drew high praise for their speed and scoring power. In this respect, Harding was a particular standout all year. As far as can be learned he became the first player in schoolboy his-iory to average over 40 points a game for the season. Coaches from opposing teams termed him “absolutely, unstoppable.”Cross, a prolific scorer, was the target of every outfit he came up against. Despite this, he led the Stm'th Penn League in scoring and at one time racked up 25straight shots from the field before finally missing. He averaged better than 60 per cent of his shots.Dreisbach averaged better than 25 games to splatter the South Schuylkill League scoring record. He was unanimous choice of the league coaches in the balloting for an all-league team.FIRST TEAM Phil Harding,- Laurel Hill Bob Dreisbach, Pine Grove Tom Cross, Waynesboro Don Good, Irwin Bob Mantz, Mt.
