Base Ball Talent. The outside world Is apparently awaking to the fact that Batesville has considerable good talent among our local ball players, for there is more of a demand for our boys this season than at any season in tbe past.Benz and Wintz have been gone for several wee'rs on their spring training trips, the former wiih the Chicago White Sox and the latter with St. Joe. Missouri, in the Western League. John Wernke leaves this week for a try-out as back stop for South Bend, one of the fastest teams of the Central League and John’s friends here have no fear of his not being able to hold any of their pitching staff. His “sticking” ability will prove a good asset in faster company for one of his hard raps has helped batesville to the big end of the score in more than one game. Chester Meyer and Matt Weigel will soon depart for Paris, Ky., of the Blue Grass League, where Ches intends to make his arm win him a steady berth on the hurling staff and Matt will play an infield position.Th^ departure of so many of last season’s team will mean a number of new faces on tbe local diamond this season but tor years our town has always had a team of which it could bs proud and this season should prove no exception for there is plenty of good playing talent left- and all the boys need is an opportunity to show what is in them.
